Guys, as all of you know, I am from Kasaragod (even though some of you call it ‘Kozhikode’), the northern end of Kerala. The distance from Kasaragod to Trivandrum is around 469 kms, covering almost 10 districts of kerala. I prefer to travel by train especially in the evening since I can reach home after a good night’s sleep. Yeah, its really like I have reached my dream destination after a long, sweet dream.

A prediction competition was conducted in Zyxware, in connection with the ICC World Cup 2015. The competition was aimed at testing our analytic skills, general knowledge, and having pure fun. The number of participants was much more than I expected. Needless to say, it added some real flavour and fun to the competition. The rules of the game were pretty simple; you had to predict the results and figures of a match. There were ‘Treasure Questions’ which would help earn bonus points apart from the routine predictions.

Today, as I sit here, I am amazed at the twists and turns my life has taken. My journey has been really interesting so far. I used to be a lazy, happy-go-lucky girl but now things have suddenly changed. Of late, I have been really busy - you wouldn’t believe, I don’t even have time to surf the T.V. channels back home.

It started years ago when we, "The Mumbai Indians" (everyone used to refer to our gang of five by this name during our college days), were watching the movie "Dil Chahta hai" that we decided to take a trip to Goa. The planning was full on, some of us even started shopping :p. We introduced this plan to our parents and as it often happens, we couldn't convince them for the trip. Finally, we had to give up the plan.

Mr.Thomas P. Thomas, CEO, Zyxware Technologies, is a man of strategy and vision, as is evident from his love for the game of cricket. Those who have been in meetings with him would have heard him talk very passionately about cricket. After Lakshya 2015, each team had meetings with him to further clarify on the presentations that had taken place. Our team had one too. After the meeting, we came up on the following conclusions:

Vimal Joseph, Technical Architect, Zyxware Technologies is an ardent proponent of the free software philosophy. His arrival was marked by quite a few changes in Zyxware. The version control system ‘git’, our project tracker, etc are a very few of the changes he put forward in Zyxware. He is a man of integrity and discipline as one can see from the Zyx3 office that he heads. We Zyxians often joke that Zyx3 is the quietest when he is present! He is by nature a quiet, calm horse and he thinks he is an introvert. He has provided technical consultancy for various external agencies like Kerala State IT Mission, State Institute of Encyclopedic Publications, University of Calicut on projects like Malayalam Computing, ICT for Visually challenged people (Insight), Migrating content to Media wiki etc… This is a sneak peek into the mind of our dear Vimal Joseph, the tech genius.

In order to identify what to write on in this edition of the newsletter, I interacted with some people in Zyxware. The suggestions, at first glance, appeared varied. But the more I think about it, the more I feel that there is a common thread running through them. The common thread is that of the future of Zyxware as an organisation, its vision and how it plans to get there. I am putting together a response here which are broad answers to the questions. More specificity would require me to take up more space which I am afraid will not be possible in the newsletter. But I would be happy to engage in the comments section.

I am delighted to see that a newsletter has been started in Zyxware. This will be one more medium for exchange of ideas apart from the skype and whatsapp groups that are already there in Zyxware. Hopefully, we will be able to create more forums, including focused groups, that will make Zyxware a vibrant and creative place bustling with ideas.

Did you know that year 2013 is the first year after 1987 which had all its digits as distinct. Did you know that Oct 1582 had 10 days removed from the month to adjust for the shift in the year? Did you know that Sumerians had calendars way back in 4000BC?. Here are some interesting pieces of information about the history of calendars.
