| | 2 min read

Zyxware Technologies is on cloud nine, as it gears up to celebrate the worldwide release of Debian 8 “Jessie” - the latest stable version of the well-known Debian distro. The much-awaited Debian GNU/Linux 8 (codename 'Jessie') computer operating system is slated for release on Saturday, April 25, 2015. This is in fact a wonderful news for Debian fans, as the new operating system brings with it an array of fascinating features, up-to-date Linux technologies, and core components.

Zyxware will organize a Debian Jessie release party on Monday, April 27, 2015, between 16:00 to 18:00 IST, to commemorate the event. The occasion also acts an opportunity to promote free software, build awareness among our people on the philosophy of Debian (Debian Manifesto and Debian Free Software Guidelines), and to introduce the SDLC practices followed by the Debian Project to the various teams in the organization.

About Debian

Debian is one of the oldest and most popular GNU/Linux distributions in the world, used by millions of users on both servers and desktops. Debian is a massive project, with around 15,000 software packages and supports 73 languages and 8 architectures. Currently, around 1000 developers are working on Debian project. Interestingly, like Ubuntu, the code names of Debian releases have a peculiarity - they are derived from the names of the characters in the famous animation movie, 'Toy Story'. More than 37493 packages will be available in Debian Jessie.

Debian is the base distribution or distro for Ubuntu, which is used by Zyxware to power all its systems.

On Saturday, the Debian project would announce the immediate availability for download and upgrade of Debian 8.0 (Jessie) computer operating system, the biggest and most advanced release to date.
