[Drupal CCK] What is the difference between excluding fields and changing the display method to "<hidden>" options in Drupal CCK?

Most people who are starting to learn Drupal get confused between the two options 'Excluding fields' and "Changing the display method to hidden" in the Drupal CCK Fields options page.   • The Exclude (checkbox) completely hides the whole variable and the display.
  • The Hidden option (in the dropdown) simply hides the display but keeps the variable available in the node (It is merely a formatter as the others in the drop down)
