Acer India announced prices of its commercial range of notebooks for the month of July 2008. The prices have been made very competitive with a lot of features. We have given the list of models and their respective prices.
Wipro announced the prices of its notebook range for the month of July. They are very competitively priced. There are only 2 models available. One comes with Intel Celeron processor and the other is with Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Both these come pre-loaded with Linux. We had recently been involved in a project to set up a Conference Management System for an International Conference to be conducted in Kerala sometime later this year. We had zeroed in on Pentabarf as the solution we were going to base the system on. Pentabarf is a Ruby on Rails solution that has been used for the last couple of DebConfs. Pentabarf as such is an excellent system, being a system created by programmers for programmers, but it heavily lacked in documentation both on their site and on the world wide web. This laptop comes preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Basic Edition. All drivers for Vista are available on company's website. Compaq Presario V3828AU is an AMD Turion™ based laptop from the house of HP-Compaq. It is equipped with an AMD Turion™64 X2 Dual-Core Processor, NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7150M graphics, 160 GB HDD, 1 GB RAM, DVD +/- RW Double Layer Drive, 14.1" widescreen LCD panel, wifi, LAN, a 1.3MP webcam and so on. This machine comes without an Operating System. So, if you want to start working on it, you need to install an OS. HP-Compaq strongly recommends you to use Windows Vista as they do not support use of Windows XP now. You would require hardware drivers once you install an OS. Drupal 6 was released on Feb 13, 2008, 13 months after Drupal 5 was released. Extending that estimation Drupal 7 should be out around March or April 2009. That is around 8-9 months from now, Drupal 5 will become obsolete. There has been talks going to extend the support life cycle of Drupal 5 beyond the release date of Drupal 6 but nothing as of now.
