Another model of laptop in HP-Compaq's Presario V3000 series product line is Presario V3172AU. The manufacturer has stopped shipping driver CDs along with the box. In their website, you can find all drivers of the same laptop for Windows Vista. They do not provide drivers for Windows XP. You will not be able to install XP without proper drivers. Here are the list of drivers of Presario V3172AU laptop. We strongly recommend that you get a legal and licensed copy of Windows if you are planning to install it.

The project is promoted by the Kerala State IT mission (KSITM). SPACE (Society for Promotion of Alternative Computing and Employment) who masterminded the switch to the School GNU/Linux for the IT @ School project is the key player behind this project as well.

Presario F733AU laptop is another model in HP-Compaq's product line. This laptop comes with an AMD Athlon X2 TK57 (1.9 GHz) processor, 512MB RAM, 120GB hard Disk, Dual Layer DVDRW, Wireless, 15.4" Widescreen, Modem, Built in camera and microphone and it is pre-installed with DOS. You need to install an operating system in to the machine so as to use it. If you are installing Windows, we recommend that you obtain legal and licenced version of the same (Windows XP or Vista) and install it. You can also try installing Linux, which is another operating system that is available free of cost.

HP Compaq has a model of laptop - Presario C751NR. This is a US based model. Drivers for Windows XP is not available in their site, if ever you think of installing XP. This model of laptop is specifically designed for Windows Vista. The drivers are not tested for Windows XP. Neither Zyxware nor HP assures any guarantee that the drivers will work perfectly in XP. When you have more than one system with Ubuntu installed, and you have to install same or similar set of packages on all your PCs, you can save on a lot of bandwidth if you had some ways of sharing the downloaded packages and updates. There is an easy way to do this in Ubuntu. This is done using apt-cacher a proxy server for your package repositories. It is very easy to set up and configure apt-cacher on a PC with Ubuntu inside your LAN.
