Two months after the release of Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex, we have downloaded the complete Ubuntu Repositories for Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. The full set of Ubuntu Repository DVDs (set of 6 DVDs) is now available and you can order it through our RequestCD Program. If you get the complete Ubuntu Repository on DVDs you do not have to have an internet connection to install any package that is normally available through Synaptic Package Manager.

We had a query from one of our customers to help them migrate their local mail server to Google Apps. They wanted to do this because they did not have the sufficient in-house capability nor have the funds to get paid external capability to support an internal mail server. One hurdle that they were facing was that they had around 40GB of mail left on the local mail server that they wanted to migrate to the new mail accounts they created on Google Apps.

Continuing the good work we have been doing in the area of Free Software we had recently volunteered our team and resources for the Free Software Free Society International Conference on Freedom in Computing, Development and Culture. The conference was a resounding success in terms of the exposure that it gave to Free Software to the public in Kerala (primarily over internet and media) and more importantly the exposure it gave to the Free Software community in Kerala to the International Free Software Community.

Recently we had to provide support on a Red Hat Server where there were hundreds of users and the user directories organized into hierarchies. Normally we change to a users directory using cd ~username. We had some extra time on our hands and wanted to play with the /etc/passwd file and tried to use awk to do the same thing. The following one liner will do this the hard way :-)

Compaq Presario C765TU is an Intel based laptop from the house of HP-Compaq. It is fitted with an Intel Celeron Processor(1.0GHz), 1GB RAM, 120GB Hard disk, DVDRW, 128MB Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, 15.4" widescreen, wireless, LAN and so on. This system is pre-install with FreeDOS and you need to install an operating system so as to work on it. You will not find any issue in installing GNU/Linux Operating System into this machine. But installing Windows XP would be a problem as HP-Compaq does not support use of any kind of Windows in any of their machines. They support only Vista. Fedora 10 has been released on Nov 25. We are now offering Fedora 10 DVD and CDs through our RequestCD program. You can order your copy of the latest Fedora 10 DVD or CDs online or you can drop by our office to get your copy. If you use GNU/Linux as your development environment then you inevitably has to use the find command at some point of time. A very common need while developing web applications is to search for the occurrences of a given string in files, very often with different extensions, under a given project. The command 'find' is a very powerful search utility that can be wielded according to our convenience and can be used in this scenario.

Debian is a computer operating system composed entirely of free and open source software. The primary form, Debian GNU/Linux, is a popular and influential Linux distribution. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. Debian uses the Linux kernel (the core of an operating system), but most of the basic OS tools come from the GNU project; hence the name GNU/Linux. (Source www.debian.org) . Debian is known for strict adherence to the Unix and free software philosophies as well as using open development and testing processes. Debian can be used as a desktop as well as server operating system.

It was an idea six months ago. That idea was conceptualised and later, was named Freedom Walk - A walk to claim,ensure and preserve freedom. Started off from Kasargode on oct 2, our team of volunteers criss-crossed through the length and breadth of Kerala touching all the 14 districts, and spreading the message of freedom among the people.
