Why does Google recommend HTML5 over Adobe Flash?

Adobe flash is a multimedia platform used for creating browser games, mobile applications, animated contents on blogs or websites and mobile games. It provides a magnificent graphical experience by using efficient algorithms. Visuals can be made more effective with built-in visual effects, which results in creative and smarter presentation of flash application.

HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. It plays an important role in the appearance of a website, webpage, or a blog. HTML has different versions, the latest being HTML5. HTML5 allows you to embed animations, audio files and video clips. Thus it supports multimedia content and provides various features that allow the scriptable rendering of 2D shapes. HTML5 enables the production of multimedia content without the need to install plugin or any player application.

HTML5 vs Adobe Flash

HTML5 has the capability to work on any device including Android, iphones and ipad. It also performs proficiently on some platforms like Linux and Mac OS. Flash also functions on these platforms but very slowly since it is not authenticated to Graphical Processing Unit(GPU). Instead, it is controlled by the Central Processing Unit, causing the application to slow down significantly. Adobe Flash cannot operate on android and iOS devices like iphone and ipad. The user has to install Adobe flash for the SWF file to be displayed. This is in fact one of the major disadvantages of Flash.

Moreover, Google issues a warning message to visitors if a particular device does not support flash. For example: If a person uses iOS and the search displays a list of sites completely designed in Adobe flash, Google may issue a warning message that the device does not support Flash and prevents you from visiting the site.

HTML5 works 58% faster than flash applications in platforms such as Linux, Mac and OS. Now a days mobile devices are very popular. However, flash is not compatible with mobile devices and notebooks. Flash heats up the device and flash contents are not search engine friendly and mobile friendly. Due to these factors, HTML5 takes priority over Adode Flash. Hence, Google highly recommends HTML5 instead of Adobe Flash.
