Millions of people worked hard and even paid with their lives to earn us the freedom we enjoy today. Is our current generation aware of the value of this freedom? From the lack of social and political sensitivity and the lack of activism in our society it might seem that this is not so. It is as if we are devaluing freedom every day. With the commercialisation of almost every sphere of life, most people are not able to find any time to put in effort to fight this alarming trend. Most, but not everybody. At Zyxware, we have decided to focus our efforts to tackle this issue head on. What is this freedom that we are talking about? It is the freedom to live our lives to its fullest without harming anybody else and without violating any of our accepted social norms. There are several areas of life where we invoke this freedom. We are primarily concerned with three different areas - Software Freedom, Freedom from Social Evils, Freedom to live our future. 1. Software Freedom - Software is a tool that allows us to process information. Information should be open and should benefit everybody. Knowledge belongs to the world. Consequently the tools that are used to process this information and create knowledge should be open as well. 2. Freedom from Social Evils - A social evil is something that works against the development of our society. And it could be anything from poverty to corruption. 3. Freedom to Live our Future - The biggest concern of our day is shrinking energy supplies and looming environmental catastrophes. If we don't act now, we probably wouldn't have a  chance to act at all. About our vision 1. Claiming freedom is about empowering individuals to claim their freedom and for this they have to be aware of the freedom or the lack of it. 2. Ensuring freedom is about organisations and even individuals who will work to ensure the freedom of the general public and this is activism. 3. Preserving freedom is about creating structures and systems that will promote these organisations and individuals and preserve activism. What are we aiming to achieve? 1. To build awareness about the issue. 2. To connect with people and organisations who share our vision and to work together for our common cause. 3. To empower these individuals and organisations using technologies. How are we planning to achieve these aims? 1. By walking from Kasargode to Trivandrum and conducting seminars in schools, colleges and other educational institutions, we hope to build awareness about the issue and its solutions, among students, youth and thereby, among the general public. 2. By using the above campaign as a platform to connect with people and organisations who share our vision,we hope to achieve aim No.2 stated above. 3. By creating a web based collaborative framework, we intend to enable these individuals and organisations to harness the power of technology and thereby co-operate and work together more effectively and efficiently.  The modus operandi of Freedom Walk A team of campaigners will be walking from Kasargode to Trivandrum in an effort to mobilize social activism to claim, ensure and preserve freedom in our society. We will be touching all district head quarters from Kasargode to Trivandrum. We will be starting from Kasargode on Oct 2 and plan to end the walk at Trivandrum on Nov 14th. Along the way we will conduct seminars in schools and other educational institutions. We invite interested institutions to register for a seminar at www.freedomwalk.in and thereby participate in this noble venture. During the journey we will also be actively promoting the free software movement in each district in Kerala. We are looking forward  to cooperating with different Free Software User Groups throughout the state and replicate our successful efforts in the building of the GNU/Linux Users Group, Trivandrum. The GNU/Linux Users Group has grown from a handful of individuals in 2007 to a vibrant community with sufficient commitment and energy to organize the ongoing 5 day long GNU/Linux Install Fest right in the the heart of Technopark, Trivandrum. We are eager to visit districts with little or no organized Free Software efforts in order to galvanize their activities towards building vibrant and active Free Software Communities. The second objective that we are trying to achieve is to promote social activism. We expect to meet and collaborate with interested individuals and organizations at various points during the march to express our solidarity and extend our offer to work together in areas where they can utilize our core competency - Information Technology - to enhance their effectiveness and competency. We will also try to push this message through seminars hoping that we will be able to inspire the next generation to grow into responsible citizens. We also would like to reach out to individuals and organizations who share our vision in preserving the environment. We will be offering to extend our help and technical competency to organized groups like nature clubs, social forestry clubs etc., to help them grow and make use of the power of technology in effectively growing and spreading the message of conservation. These groups can also utilize our efforts to actively network among similar groups across the state.  As part of this effort we will be offering free technical consultancy, web hosting and related services for all these groups. If you are a member of any of these above mentioned groups and you are interested in availing this opportunity please sign up at the site - www.freedomwalk.in or get in touch with us by phone at 9446069446. The progress and updates during the different phases of the Freedom Walk from the planning stages to the actual walk will be regularly updated on the website - www.freedomwalk.in. Visitors at the site will also be able to interact with the team on a regular and real time basis during the walk. Additionally we will also be releasing a couple of web based systems before the Freedom Walk, which we are hoping to be able to become a collaborative platform for connecting with like-minded organizations and individuals. About Zyxware Zyxware was started with a vision to be the change we wished to see in the world. We have been consistently validating this claim with our projects and our principles of conducting our business. Projects as diverse as the Chikungunya Tracking Software and the Freedom Toaster - a Free Software Vending Machine - made us realise that we needed to compartmentalize our initiative into for-profit and not-for-profit activities. Towards this goal, we are planning to launch Zyxware Foundation, a not-for-profit-organization(NPO) which will be the vehicle through which we will be implementing all our public interest projects. Zyxware Foundation will be starting its operations with this project - The Freedom Walk - as its first project.  The profits from the business operations of Zyxware Technologies will fund the operations of this NPO. We are also looking at other funding sources to scale up our social operations. Announcements Community Projects Press Releases Leave a reply Your email address will not be published. I sincerely hope that there is a powerful community built up in and around zyxware and its leader that will cause a transformational momentum. Our nation has always had visionaries with prophetic voices. The need of the hour is for movements that follow these voices. Looking forward to the updates on the Freedom walk as it happens Add new comment

Zyxware Technologies, today announced that they will be releasing India's first Freedom Toaster in a function to be held at Park Center, Technopark on 1st Sep at 4:30PM. The toaster will be inaugurated by The Hon'ble Minister for Education, Government of Kerala, Shri. M.A. Baby who will also inaugurate the 5-day GNU/Linux Install fest which will be held at the same venue from Sep 1 to Sep 5. A freedom toaster is a Free Software CD/DVD vending machine that will make a copy any Free Software that the user wants on a CD or DVD. Such a dispensing mechanism is highly relevant in a country like India where cheap and unlimited broadband internet which remains the chief means of free software distribution, is not very prevalent. This Freedom Toaster was inspired by the original Freedom Toaster(s) created by the Shuttleworth Foundation and is designed and developed by Zyxware Technologies and promoted jointly by Zyxware Technologies and GNU/Linux Users Group Trivandrum. This is a ground breaking event in the history of Free Software in India and through this we are planning to promote free software massively by making it accessible to people across the country. Only very few freedom toasters exist across the whole world and this is going to be the first one in India. A vending machine that can be used to copy and distribute Free and Open Source Software is made possible because of the Freedom associated with Free Software. Free Software by definition allows people to use, study, modify and share software without any restrictions. In addition to being free as in freedom, quite a few of the popular Free Software are also available free of cost and thus makes tremendous economic sense in a developing country like India. Additionally Free Software inherently promotes a spirit of innovation, drives local industry and thus spurs economic growth in an emerging economy like India. Since inception in 2006, Zyxware Technologies has been at the forefront of promoting socially relevant projects. The series of public interest initiatives starting with the Chikungunya Tracking Free Software and continuing with the Freedom Toaster is proof of the company's commitment towards society as proclaimed by the company in it's mission statement - "Be the change you wish to see in the world". We also welcome other companies, organizations and Free Software Users groups across the nation to take advantage of the freedom toaster. The toaster can be completely dismantled and can be transported anywhere in the country. Interested parties can also contact us and get us to fabricate and parcel freedom toasters to anywhere in India. We are also willing to loan it for the various GNU\Linux User's groups across India. More information about the design of the toaster and the software used can be found at www.freedomtoaster.in Announcements Community Projects Press Releases Free Software Freedom Toaster Leave a reply Your email address will not be published. Free Software Users Group Thrissur will probably take it for an event in Thrissur. Otherwise it has been doing rounds in different Free Software programs within the city in the past two months Fredrick (not verified) access_time 21 Feb 2019 - 22:07 Thats great news as this will provide to many Indians free software. I can say that many in this country would be switching over to free open source software and free themselves from the bondage of Microsoft. Inna Pay (not verified) access_time 21 Feb 2019 - 22:07 In reply to Good News! by Fredrick (not verified) The Free Software Foundation of India, is a sister organisation to the Free Software Foundation. It was founded in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), the capital of Kerala in 2001, as a non-profit Company. The FSFI advocates to promote the use and development of Free Software in India. This includes educating people about , including how it can help the economy of a developing country like India. FSF India regards non-free software as not a solution, but a problem to be solved. Free software is sometimes locally called swatantra software in India. Add new comment

We are happy to announce that our open source application, The Health Monitoring System was dedicated to the nation by Hon'ble Health Minister of Kerala, Smt. P K Sreemathi Teacher by accepting the first copy of the application from Zyxware's CEO Mr. Anoop John on 5th October, 2007. The function was held at the minister's office. This software, named as Health Monitoring System, is released under GNU General Public License and made available free of cost. This allows anybody to download the source code of the application, edit, modify and use it as per their requirements. This application reduces manual process in reporting of diseases. Hospitals which are internet-enabled can login to the system and submit reports as and when cases are registered. It also allows hospitals that does not have web access to send paper based reports to a health center (district level) where a data entry operator can enter them into the system or to send soft copies in a specific format that can be imported automatically. This system allows a secure and separate login to different users with different levels of access rights to the system. Users are classified as Government Medical Officers, Hospital Users, Data Access Operators and System Administrators. Cases reported are displayed on a live map. The GIS interface uses Google Maps for this purpose. Easy visual analysis for the determination of the extend of spread of diseases is possible. Cases are represented by different markers on the map. When a case is reported, it is made available for display on the map immediately, there by making it possible for the authorities to take precautionary steps at the earliest, if required. This software is the first of its kind developed using open technologies and released as a free and open source software. The source code of the application is available from Sourceforge: Zyxware Health Monitoring System. The application is written in PHP and MySQL. It can be set up on a Linux PC or a Windows PC. Hope this software will go a long way in tackling epidemics like chikungunya. It will be a boon to milliions of people like me who are suffering from chikungunya. The main hurdle at the clinical level for epidemics like chikungunya is that no medicines have been identified for treating this disease. Doctors just prescribe pain killers and paracetamol. The need of the hour is a sincere effort at the govt level to do extensive research for the roots of this disease , develop preventives and prevent such outbreaks in future. Such efforts aided with a GIS software like zyxwares’s will go a long way in eradicating these epidemics. Jai (not verified) access_time 21 Feb 2019 - 16:37 Kudos. I appreciate the effort and contribution from the Zyxware Technologies Team. I hope it would be possible to import the data (both demographic & clinical) collected through Electronic Medical Records (EMR’s) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS) database into the above mentioned modules (Health Monitoring System Management Console and Health Monitor GIS/Reporting Interface application), to generate disease patterns/trends, analyse reasons for occurrance, predict possiblity for future outbreaks for prevention etc. Such a feature/effort could help acheive better results in public health administration in India and other developing countries.
