Over the years, the use of mobile devices have grown manifold, and people no longer use mobiles only to make and receive calls. In fact, mobile shopping has become a common phenomena for the modern shopper. The mobile has become man’s constant and reliable companion and assists us in many tasks, and consequently, the number of applications and functions on a smartphone have also increased. If your ecommerce business has to match up to your customer’s expectations, it is necessary that your online store is mobile ready. Studies and surveys have shown that the use of PCs and laptops for shopping has significantly reduced, and smart devices like the mobile phone or tablets has overtaken it by a comfortable margin. Customers browse through products while on the move and make shopping decisions while waiting for friends or for clients. This underlines the immediate need to make your ecommerce store mobile-friendly and move a step ahead of your competition. Most ecommerce business owners perceive mobile-ready websites to be expensive propositions and hence do not take the extremely critical step towards making it the next level shopping experience for customers. Let us look at a few simple yet critical steps towards building a mobile friendly ecommerce store: Apply the Mobile-first strategy: This will give you the necessary edge over your competitors and also give your customer a wider access to your products and services. By ensuring that navigation is easy and your website design works seamlessly on the mobile device, you can be sure of being mobile-ready. The check-out process also needs to be easy and quick. Understanding ecommerce as a business: High-quality images and smartly worded descriptions of your products and services will surely attract your customers. No one would want to see blurry or bad quality images and muddled-up product descriptions. Details about product costs, shipping charges, delivery expectations, product warranties etc. have to be clearly outlined so that there is no ambiguity. For example, offering free delivery of products if the purchase exceeds a certain value will attract more customers and repeat ones too. Loading speed is critical: ecommerce solutions or hosted service optimized for high speeds is recommended, especially for smaller businesses. There is no greater loss than losing a customer due to slow loading of images and data or if the checkout takes an inordinately longer time. Match the right tools for your website: You can use a hosted platform with responsive design for your online store or website as this will facilitate processing of credit card payment extremely easy. If you are using Word Press, secure processing of payment is essential. Engaging customers with social media: Social media has already found favour amongst large and small businesses and you can use it to your advantage as a supporting channel to increase sales and engage with potential clients. Whether you have a large business or a start-up, we can assist you in building a top quality Drupal-based ecommerce website, right from scratch if necessary. India as a mobile market has evolved at a tremendous rate and has become a pretty prominent market for smart phones. Since mobile phones have invaded personal space in a big way, it is really no wonder that retailers have quickly sensed this opportunity and have made the right moves to grab attention. The mobile commerce revolution in India has prompted quite a few e-commerce companies to transition to mobile-only sites. Whether this step will prove to be in the right direction is yet to be seen, but the writing is clearly on the wall for non-mobile e-commerce sites. An average mobile user in India spends more and more time on apps than making or receiving calls. According to the data collected by technology analyst, Mary Meeker, in her latest Internet Trends report, 65% of Internet traffic in India was accessed through mobile phones while 41% of Indians who shopped online used their mobile phones to do so. There has been a sea-change in the way people across the world browse the Internet. Over the years, there has been a proliferation in the devices used to access this deluge of websites. Today, PCs and laptops are being quickly replaced by smart phones and tablets, and this has pushed business owners into taking a relook at their website design. Everyone seems to be getting on to redesigning the website in order to give their users an enhanced and more responsive experience. Why should you redesign your website for mobile? Before you get into a tizzy over hiring a good (and cost-effective) web designing company to redesign your business website, here are a few reasons that would convince you of the significance of redesigning your website for mobile. This will also require a bit of research and a sound strategy in place to ensure complete success. Customer satisfaction: Any business gives absolutely top priority to client satisfaction and there is no better way of giving your customers the best experience than making your website mobile ready. Since the mobile site is equipped to collect visitor data, you can work almost real time on improving customer experiences, thus customizing it to the maximum. Ideal way of reaching out to customers: The simplest and the most effective way to reach across to your target customer is to engage them on their favourite social media site. For example, Facebook has proved to be the most downloaded app on the smart phone and this trend has grown phenomenally over the years. A responsive website has a better chance of being viewed than a non-mobile site, and you would surely not want your customer to fall in love with your competitors simply because you did not go the mobile way. Cost-saving: It is a well-known fact that mobile advertising is significantly cheaper and cost-effective as compared to TV and print advertising and also allows your product to connect to more potential customers at a lesser cost. Mobile advertising can also act as a test platform before you decide to move to other expensive mediums. Multichannel Navigation: The mobile phone or tablet is the modern man’s constant companion and increases the possibility of accessing your mobile site. Today, emails and SMS messages are being increasingly accessed via the smart phone and clearly provides your business with the opportunity to integrate a variety of channels and also ramp up social media marketing. User-friendly: Mobile websites are much easier to manage, improves SEO and is quick to adapt to any of the modern devices. You do not want your visitors to continue pinching at the screen to zoom in or out and finally exiting out of frustration. Why you need to choose Drupal for designing mobile-friendly websites? Every marketer and entrepreneur would be familiar with the fact that if you need to attract consumers to your products or services, your website has to be mobile-friendly. For, example you probably are now reading this article on your smart phone, gotcha!! Consumers love to browse products even in their spare time - I know I do! And every time consumers want to search products, they prefer to do it from their mobile phones, which offers more convenience. Today, every successful business maintains a mobile responsive website, and Drupal has been the building block for many mobile-friendly websites. The main reason why developers have been using Drupal for developing mobile-friendly websites is its compatibility with smart devices such as Android, iPad, iPhone and Blackberry. Every new version of Drupal is created based on the criteria of improving the mobile experience. The latest addition, Drupal 8, has themes that have been created with the mobile first architecture in mind. Key advantages of using Drupal for mobile websites: All themes and templates are user-friendly Advanced security tools keeps threats and risks at bay It is simpler and easier to develop mobile apps using Drupal Modules and themes in Drupal that helps create mobile websites It is equipped with more tools exclusively for creating mobile websites which includes: The Mobile Tool module notifies users about the availability of the mobile version of the website that they want to browse. With the Drupal Gap tool, it is simple and easy for developers to make and modify multiplatform Drupal mobile apps. When websites are viewed on the mobile screen, its layout, image and font size, everything changes. In web development, the area for which the website layout changes is referred to as the breakpoint. Drupal’s Breakpoints module helps developers personalize and modify the use of breakpoints and allows modules and themes to render or use breakpoints between them. The potent themes in Drupal such as Omega, Adaptive theme and Arctica, help to minimize additional formatting of the website to make it mobile-friendly. The picture module enables administrators to optimize images for various devices and resolutions by pairing image styles with CSS media queries. Painting a picture or composing music is something we associate with creativity instead of website development. Even the job titles such as 'UX analyst', 'software developer' and 'Drupal developer' does not give readers an inkling of an idea that it is creative work. However, building websites and applications is a lot like a work of art; the final product should be a harmonious collection of information that not only appeals to but also captivates the viewers. It should appeal to the viewer’s aesthetic sense so that they will enjoy browsing through the website. It is also an art of getting into the mind of the user to place content in such a way that even a first time user can easily find what they want rather than being cumbersome to use the application. What is Drupal? Drupal is a content management platform for building websites and web applications. There are millions of websites powered by Drupal and over 12% of the busiest websites run on Drupal; hence it goes without saying that Drupal is a popular choice of CMS. Some of the high-profile sites that run on Drupal include Whitehouse.org, MTV.co.uk, London.gov.uk and New York Stock Exchange. Some of the ways Drupal supports creativity are through: Free and Open Source: Drupal is a free, open-source web development platform for online content. That means it is completely free to download, use and modify. There is no purchase, license or maintenance fee and this allows you to focus more on creativity and building sites. Drupal Community: A unique and popular aspect of Drupal is its large online community that is constantly building and sharing themes, modules and other resources. The Drupal community is a great forum that provides excellent support and assistance. Themes and Modules: The look and feel of a Drupal site is represented by its “theme”. The visual design and framework of a Drupal site is separate from the content, allowing the website to be responsively designed for different devices and applications, even mobile devices. You can create your own themes thereby showcasing your creativity. With the availability of over 30,000 modules in Drupal, newbies and others in Drupal can effectively customize these modules according to their requirements. Scalable and flexible: Drupal is highly scalable, from building personal blogs to enterprise level applications. Drupal also offers infinite possibilities - thanks to the flexibility of themes, content types and views. Though Drupal has a learning curve, it can be mastered with skill and perseverance. The beauty of Drupal is that you can effortlessly flex your creative muscles and show off Drupal’s versatile capabilities. At Zyxware Technologies, a leading Drupal provider for the past 9 years, we believe in the power of teamwork, in solutions, and innovations with prime focus on client satisfaction. The introduction of Drupal 8 is sure to create a flutter in the web development circles; this latest version of Drupal, with cutting-edge features, is certainly promising some radical changes. Drupal 8, which embraces a variety of technologies including Symfony, Backbone, Twig, and YAML, is all set to create a revolution in the crowded CMS market. For example, with TWIG, a favourite PHP template engine has been incorporated in Drupal 8, enabling the use of much more secure and robust themes. So, here is a brief introduction to Theming in Drupal 8: Introduction of Twig: Drupal 8 has accepted Twig as its template language and this sets it apart from the others in this business. The twig themes are extensible; this implies that only the required bit connected to it are defined and the remaining are inherited from the parent. Remember that there won’t be any theme functions here, therefore making every themable output use an html.twig file. Themers will surely rejoice at this bit of information about Drupal 8. Upgraded Templates: The Classy theme is instrumental in organizing the template files in a neat manner, as in Drupal 8 we are in total control of the mark-up of the site. The documentation of all these template files is at the top, with information about the available variables. Twig filters and functions can be used to manipulate the data directly from the template files. In order to bypass unnecessary function calls, it is highly recommended to build translatable strings directly than from the pre-processor. De-bugging: There are a lot of improvements made on the debugging of theme information. Therefore, when you switch on the twig debugging, a set of useful HTML comments pop up. You don't have to try to know what to override, as you can view the template file that is responsible for a particular mark-up, its location, and which theme suggestions can be used. Also Twig has a brand new dump() function whereby a particular variable to the page can be printed out and if that’s limited, the Devel module incorporates the kint() function which gives access to a variable inspection tool. Libraries and Assets: Drupal 8 is coupled with the latest of front-end libraries like Underscore.js, Modernizr, and Backbone.js along with JQuery 2.x, and with the inclusion of a SMACSS based CSS file organization, this seems like a no-mess theme. Drupal 8 is all set to make life easier and hassle-free for web development teams and Zyxware is at the forefront of making these changes. Call us today if you want to migrate to Drupal 8 or wish to know more about our Drupal development services. Our teams are more than ready to support your organization with the necessary resources. Configuration management is the task of tracking and controlling changes in a website. Site owners often want to have deeper visibility and control over configuration changes for maintaining integrity and traceability throughout the lifecycle of a website. Configuration Management in Drupal 8 The Configuration Management Initiatives in Drupal 8 basically include: Move configuration management into core Allow storage of configuration in files Allow the transfer of configuration between environments Create an API to allow custom configurations Integrate UUID into core so that certain configurations can be given machine names The configuration management has been absorbed into Drupal 8 core. The idea behind the Configuration Management Initiative was to build Drupal from the ground up to be better at configuration management. This is to combat the haphazard formats in which modules are stored configuration in Drupal 7, making it hard to decipher where relevant configuration was stored. In Drupal 8, the configuration is stored in the form of human readable text files in the YAML (.yml) format. The configuration Manager module in Drupal 8 provides a user interface for importing and exporting configuration changes between a Drupal installation in different environments, such as development, staging and production so that changes can be made and tested away from the live environment. This allows for deployment of a configuration from one environment to another, provided they are the same site (cloned instances of the same site). The site is identified using a Universally Unique Identifier (UUID).The site UUID must match the target site to allow importing of configuration files on that site. Configuration files Default configuration of modules, distributions and themes is imported into the active configuration store when the respective projects are enabled. So the active configuration store is the complete set of live configuration at any given time. The active configuration is stored in the database by default. However, it does allow websites to easily switch to file-based storage or key-value storage. The two kinds of configuration in Drupal 8 are: Simple configuration API: used where there can be only a single instance of the configuration. Configuration Entity API: used to store multiple sets of configuration like views, fields. What's in store for you? Drupal 8 terminates the risk associated with configuration settings being stored with the content database. Also, most of the features in the configuration system exist to support multilingual sites. This enables Drupal-powered sites to reach a wider audience especially in European and Asian countries where multilingual sites have a distinct advantage. Zyxware Technologies has long been associated with Drupal development and has been an active participant in the Drupal community. To migrate to Drupal 8 or to learn more about how Drupal 8 has been geared towards multilingual sites using configuration management, please get in touch with us.
