Technical Review
DESIGN
With the curved, futuristic design mimicking a folded page of a magazine sony nailed the design as always.The dimensions work out to 20.23 mm on the thicker end and 7.62mm on the thinner one.The thicker edge gives the tablet a slightly slanting position on vertical surfaces which is easier for viewing and typing.Weighing around 598 grams,it has a 9.4 inches wide TFT display with capacitive touchscreen which is capable of providing a screen resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels with 16M color depth and 161 ppi pixel density with multi touch facility.
The back panel and sides are made of texturised plastic which degrades the tab a bit and also they are prone to smudges,scratches and fingerprints.
SOFTWARE
Tablet S runs an updated version of Honeycomb, Android 3.2 without any customisation.It offers a few add-ons like the playstation suits which enables you to play playstation games.A remote control app is available which allows you to control other electronic devices through the infrared sensor.
MEDIA
Sony's 1280x800 display uses TruBlack technology,which gives a clear black display which also enables colour reproduction.The 5-megapixel rear sharp and clear images even in low light.A problem relating media is Tablet S repeatedly looses Wi-Fi connection when the screen was not in use.
PERFORMANCE
The Tablet S is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 T20 chipset and dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9 processor.Apart from slight delays with auto-rotate and a bit of a slowdown when downloading big files, the Tablet S never exhibited any visible lags.Battery life is around 8.5 hrs with 3G and wifi connected.
OUR REVIEW
Tablet S will offer one of the smoothest honeycomb experiences with innovative design,long battery back up and excellent screen.However the plasticky finish and the design without any screen protection can cause problems.
