Windows XP installation problem in Compaq Presario CQ40-108TU

Compaq Presario CQ40-108TU was launched by HP-Compaq some times in October, 2008. We have received many enquiries regarding installation Windows XP in this machine. Installing Windows XP was not possible at all. There are quite a lot of people who are facing problems with installing Windows XP in this laptop. Here is a solution provided by the manufacturer to rectify this issue. There is no guarantee that this will work perfectly. We have not tried these steps yet. If you are trying to, it is purely at your own risk.

The manufacturer does not support use of Windows XP in any of their machines. Check here to know more about Issues in HP-Compaq machines when installing/downgrading to Windows XP
You would require drivers for Windows also for the laptop. Check here to Download drivers for Compaq Presario CQ40-108TU laptop. Kindly check below for more information regarding installing Windows.

Step 1:-- Enabling Audio:
You need to flash the BIOS to F.11C as given below :
**Copy the all the files from BIOS folder to a DOS bootable Thumb drive
**Boot the notebook via dos bootable thumb drive (press F9 to select Flash drive boot)
**At the DOS command prompt , i.e, C:\ type Flash.bat and shutdown the notebook after completing the BIOS flashing. (this may take 25 to 30 seconds)

Step 2:-- Installing O.S :

Suggested : WinXP SP3 Bootable Disc with ACHI driver ready O.S image (can be done using nlite)
Note :-- u needn't have any Floppy drive under this process

Step 3:-- Installing Drivers : (Install from the Drivers DVD - already given)

The above 3steps completes the Entire Installation process.

XP Installation for CQ40

Hi, Deepak,
Basically these machines are meant for Vista and Win 7 only they are not designed for Xp.
But nothing is impossible you can install Xp too.
i have CQ40 317Tu and I successfully installed Xp not once but many times and dual boot also.
first thing you have to go step by step and for this it requires that you must know to google the drivers, you should know installation of programmes and should know about the system and its structure. Make an extensive research on net and specially read carefully SAYSPRASADS forums "http://saysprasad.wordpress.com/2009/11/" this is only example iam giving here you search extensively in it.
Any way
1 your dowanload Nlite programme / or you buy an external USB floppy drive.
2 Download Intel Matrix Storage Manager often called "F6flpy32" in it search for the AHCI Drivers the line would be like this in the "iastor" text file""Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller""
3. Copy your XP CD contents to any new folder on your desktop.
4. Install and Run Nlite programme.
5. follow the sequence in Nlite programme and when it ask for integration for f6 AHCI drivers you chose the folder where you stored the "F6flpy32".
now this Integragted XP Iso which created by Nlite programme you Burn on CD and then Boot the Computer with this CD.

Here we go it will automatically find out and recognise your hard disk and asks where to install.

If you doesnot know to integrate via Nlite programme then better you get on USB floppy drive and Inzip "F6flpy32" and copy the contents in a floppy.
Then boot the computer by the original XP CD and just on the begining of loading it will ask to press F6 if you are installing controller.
Press F6 and make sure that your USB Floppy drive is connected all the while and in the middle it will ask to "press s to install the xternal raid controller" you press s and it load iastor etc and then follow as normal you will not come accross blue screeen.

after you install XP donot forget to install UAA BUs driver and Intel Chipset Driver and lastly donot forget to install Microsoft .NET2 programme as this is one which helps you to install most of the programmes.

2 download sata drivers.

First of all i would thankfull to all the staff of
Zyxware Technologies how are helping to install xp on hp laptops.

Respected sir. Previously I saw solution for installing xp for CQ40-133TU laptop. I was sucessfull only after Flashing the BIOS F.24 To F.11C.

Now I have one doubt. Sir.
Now I have that BIOS Update. F.11C. which i flashed for CQ-133TU Laptop.

Plz listout the laptop models that supports F.11C bios so we can flash before installing xp.
i kindly request plz mail the list to jitu_rule@yahoo.co.in. Bcoz i have the that bios i am not able to use confedently. I am thinking that it is only for CQ-133TU. But some engineers say no it apply for all intel based laptop. I am requesting u sir plz list out the models. so we can use frearlessly.

I am basically a hardware engineer. working in bangalore. i have to install xp for following laptop in my office plz help me out.

Hp Compaq cq40-144TU

I bought this with Win XP. After I loaded SP3, the USB drive does not recognize USB drives and flash drives. Only mouse works. When I insert a pocket drive, found new hardware wizard opens and fails to install 'USB to IDE'. If I insert a flash drive it looks for 'USB Mass Storage Device' and fails. Will be grateful if you can help.

hi myself gaurav and my query is i have CQ60-104TU laptop. and in not be able to re-install windos xp, actuall i have pirated version in my laptop of xp, and after that i have format mu laptop and when i am trying to install original version of xp, its showing me some blue colour kind of dump, and i have tried 2-3 times. and after that when i've tried to contact the hp they are not going to help me...they only recommend me to download windows vista in my laptop. i just want to know the reason, and one more thing that my laptop is xp or vista supported??

USB optical mouse doesn't work with Compaq Presario CQ40

Could you please help with this issue that I can't use external USB optical mouse in my laptop (CQ40)? At the first time I plugged into the USB port, it seems detected and worked for about 5 sec and mouse pointer stopped. Following attempts were failed and message mentions that the USB device is not recognized. I'm using Win XP on Compaq Presario CQ40. Could you kindly help me with this?

XP Installation prob

I have CQ40-108TU notebook with windows-xp. I am facing many problems now. My system gets hang, sometimes do not shut down properly. When I use pen-drive in my system, this make my system hang or processing slow. I do not understand that this is due to downgrade vista based system into xp or it's virus. I have avast 4.8 in my system. But after scanning I don't find any virust in my system. Plz suggest that whether I install windows vista or is there any way to go further with xp, becz I want to continue with xp. My laptop doesn't support to install xp now. It shows error msg as- 0x0000007B (0xF7C1E524,0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

Windows XP installation porblem in Compaq Presario CQ40-108TU

You need to flash the BIOS to F.04 as given below :
**Copy the all the files from BIOS folder to a DOS bootable Thumb drive
**Boot the notebook via dos bootable thumb drive (press F9 to select Flash drive boot)
**At the DOS command prompt , i.e, C:\ type Flash.bat and shutdown the notebook after completing the BIOS flashing. (this may take 25 to 30 seconds)

Step 2:-- Installing O.S :

Suggested : WinXP SP3 Bootable Disc with ACHI driver ready O.S image (can be done using nlite)
Note :-- u needn't have any Floppy drive under this process

Step 3:-- Installing Drivers : (Install from the Drivers DVD - already given)

The above 3steps completes the Entire Installation process
