Compaq Presario C738TU Laptop Drivers for Windows XP
Presario C738TU is a Dual Core based laptop from HP-Compaq. It is a good machine with an Intel Dual core Processor with 1.6GHz, 512 MB DDR2 RAM, 120GB SATA Hard Drive, a SuperMulti DVD burner with Dual Layer, 15.4" Widescreen display, Wi-Fi, LAN, Integrated Webcam and Microphone and the Operating System used is DOS. You need to install an operating system to work on this machine. We have given the list of all drivers required for the same laptop for Windows XP. You can either click on the given links or copy and paste them to a new browser to download the drivers in to your system. It is always good to have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed in the system. This will help you to avoid many incompatibility errors.

Before installing the Audio and modem drivers in your Notebook you have to install the microsoft update(UAA) driver from the given link:

3. Select "Install from a list or specific location".
4. Click Next. Then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install".
5. Click Next and then select "Sound, video and game controller" from the list.
6. Click Next and then click Have Disk.
7. Click Browse C:\swsetup\sp34200 folder and select the .inf (wisxxxx) file and click open and Continue with the onscreen instructions.

My system is working Perfectly with head phone connected no sound comes from Speaker and mic too working fine
Only problem presently is that external mic from the sound port not working
Found alternative for that too you can either buy Head phone with MIC which has USB type connector and connect to USB and use it works perfect tried already or buy a CAM with MIC which is USB connection type .

I cannot guarantee it that way. But you can try installing Vista. The company says that everything will work perfectly if you install Vista, as these are configured to work with Vista only.
You can also try installing Linux.

I am using compaq presario c 700 notebook its c738tu i have not got any preinstalled windows so if i use ubuntu 7.10 will all the drivers in ur site work with it or i will have to install other drivers .I am doing comp. engg. so i would also like to work in linux so pls tell me some tips also.

Dear Tushar,
Before installing XP, you will have to change SATA HDD (or similar) settings in your BIOS.
But we would suggest you do not put XP as there are various driver issues if you use XP on Compaq Laptops as these are not designed to work with XP.

Driver issues with Audio and Microphone in Compaq Presario C738T
Dear Mr. Shailendra,
As I mention everywhere in the site, these laptops are designed to work with Vista. There is no guarantee that the drivers for XP will work well as they are not properly tested. As a matter of fact, the company does not support use of XP now. Anyhow, please check the following post on How to resolve audio and mic problem in Compaq Presario Laptops. That is for the model Presario C733TU but try following the same steps, but use the drivers that you had downloaded for C738TU.
Regarding Ubuntu, it is recommended you install it to the last partition. Is drive D: you last partition or do you have more drives? Free the last partition and using the partition manager in Windows, you can delete that drive. Now boot the system from Linux media. At the step where you have to select the drive, you can select the one that shows free space. Create a swap partition (swap should be double the size of RAM in your machine) from the beginning of free space. Then you can select the rest of the space and create a new partition with format/File System as Ext3. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Ubuntu. Incase you find any difficulty, do feel free to contact us

this driver works fine. sound doesn't come from the external speakers when the headfone is plugged in. Same for the mic.. it works perfectly. The volume though is on the lower side.

Yes, i tried the Alternate mic boost in microphone's advanced control and the mic volume increased. But the speaker's volume were on the lower side when i was using the headphone. So i used Winamp and amplified the volume. That is how i'm using the headphones for the time being. Tried voice chatting too. It was fine..No problem. Please suggest something for improving the sound volume while using the headphones.... thanks

I am facing the same audio drivers problem with headphone and mic. I have tried with all the links that are given on the page but my problem still there I am getting the sound but when I mute the volume I still get the sound. this is driver incompatibility problem. please give the sutable driver if anybody has it. the second thing i have faced is that when I install the high defination audio on high defination audio bus I get one unknown device and that is the game controller. I think if the audio driver is proper then this unknown device is autamatically installed.

Even HP-Compaq does not give you a guarantee regarding the drivers. i have bought C738TU. Loaded XP on it. Everything is fine except 2-3 things. One microphone is not working. Two whenever I put headphones in the socket still the sound comes out of external speakers as well. Please help. The drivers which I used are from your website

Please visit the following post on Microphone and Headphone problem in Presario C733TU and follow the procedures there. The steps given are the same, but you should try with the driver that was given to you. If it doesn't work, please try using the driver link given there. Most of the drivers are common for all C700 series laptops. Also make sure that you have Service Pack 2 installed for Windows XP

It is not necessary to install modem drivers for the mic. You need to install the audio drivers, which apparently has got some issues with this laptop that the drivers are not compatible with Windows XP

Unable to install video and Wireless driver
Hi,
Three days back i purchased Compaq Presario C738TU Laptop, i have installed Windows XP operating system in my machine, i have downloaded all the driver which given above links i have successfully installed sound, motherboard, modem and UAA drivers, when i am trying to install video driver it is saying that "there is no minimum requirement in your system to install this package" and i am unable to install wireless drivers also it is giving error.
How can i switch off my monitor when i am listing some music and if i am setting Volume Control as mute then also i am getting sound can you suggest me on this.
Please do the needful ASAP.

Wireless and Video problem in Presario C738TU
We had used the above links to download and install them to one of our customer. All the links were working perfectly. Please try installing the video driver using manual installation method.
Regarding audio, as of now, we do not have any alternate best driver. The sound from speaker and headphone is an issue faced by many customers. The only option is to try different alternate drivers.

Manual steps to install video adapter in Compaq Presario C738TU
Perform the below steps to fix the issue.
1. Click on Start and select Run. Now type devmgmt.msc and press enter.
2. Expand the "Display Adapter" and check for the display adapter of the laptop. Right click on the display adapter and click Update driver.
3. Select "Install from a list or specific location".
4. Click Next. Then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install".
5. Click Next and then select "Sound, video and game controller" from the list.
6. Click Next and then click Have Disk.
7. Click Browse C:\swsetup\sp35810 folder and select the .inf (wisxxxx) file and click open and Continue with the onscreen instructions.
Let us know what happens.

Most drivers should work
Most of the drivers listed should work. The only one that is confirmed to be not working is for the Mic. Try reinstalling everything in the order specified.

HP Compaq Presario C738TU & IE 7
I purchased a HP Compaq Presario C738TU last week and uploaded all the updates for Windows, etc. Working great. Then, I downloaded and installed IE 7. After clicking on Start... Restart, the computer turned off. Then, I pressed the ON switch until I heard the HDD running, and the screen was black.
When I looked really really close & hard at the screen, I could see the Compaq and Windows splash screen, and I heard the Windows Startup chime. I was asked, by the tech support from the store I bought it from last week, to remove the battery and turn it on. And the display worked fine, and also fine when I restarted with the battery. That was 4 hours ago. Now, when I restarted the computer, it went blank again, and I can only see without the battery installed.
I am under specific instructions by the store technie not to download any drivers :( ... what should I do? (I'm thinking about returning - what I thought was - this lovely machine...)

The link u posted seems dead. Is there anyway I can load them because at hp website is a bit slow here and i dont know why. Other websites seem ok while browsing.
And the display driver you had provided is not compatible. It says your system does not meet the minimum requirement to install this. how? can it be repaired?

The link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe for UAA driver is working perfect at our end. I had just checked and everything seems normal and I am able to download sp33867.exe file, which is the UAA driver for this machine. One of our customer had recently used this same driver and everything works normal in his system.
Even the display driver is also working perfectly in the same laptop. After extracting this file to C:/swsetup, do not try installing it using the automatic method - ie; do not click the .exe file in the folder and install.
Installing this driver may result in an error. But continue with the following steps to get the audio driver installed correctly.
1. Click on Start and select Run. Now type devmgmt.msc and press enter.
2. Right click on your display adapter name which will be displayed when you click '+' sign near 'Display Adapters' and click Update driver.
3. Select "Install from a list or specific location"
4. Click Next. Then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install".
5. Click Next and then select "Display Adapters" from the list.
6. Click Next and then click Have Disk.
7. Click Browse C:\swsetup\sp35810 folder and select the .inf file and click open and Continue with the on-screen instructions.
