Steve (not verified) wrote on August 26, 2008 - 00:53Hi Joju,
could you please guide me to download drivers for my Compaq Presario C798TU.
my notebook's serial number is CND821Q00Y and it's product number is FF397PA#UUF
The drivers that were provided by HP for WinXP aren't even installing. Everytime I try, I get this error: "c:\swsetup\SP36880\setup.exe This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." (This is an example for the intel chipset drivers but its like that for all the drivers that the HP Online Customer Service gave me!)
Unfortunately no matter how many times I try, I still get the same error! These are the drivers that the HP Online Technicians asked me to try...

decoder for c710 with xp
Elizabeth (not verified) wrote on January 10, 2008 - 08:28Hi
Thank you very much. My son gave me a Presrio C710tu laptop, put Xp on it and left me to it while he went on a long holiday. Thanks to you, I now have an almost perfectly functioning laptop. I am so happy. The last problem is playing DVD's. (I haven't tried writing to one yet). I get the message ".....does not have a compatible DVD decoder. I downloaded a Satsuki Decoder Pack. I got a message suggesting I change the resolution or colour properties but it made no difference. Being a real computer dunce, I don't know where to look or what to do. I could buy the Roxio pack recommended by Windows but I would like to be sure it would work. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Elizabeth
DVD Decoder.
webmaster wrote on January 10, 2008 - 09:15By default, Windows will play DVD formats. I think you can try installing any available digital media players (eg: Power DVD, Zoom Player, DivX Player..). When you install these, other required codecs will also be installed. There are many free softwares also available on the internet. You need not have to buy any pack when you have free applications available. You can visit some download sites and get these. Keep the buying option as the last one.

Windows XP installation problem
Sven (not verified) wrote on December 30, 2007 - 03:42Hi Joju,
No I haven't installed it yet. I can't get that far. During initial setup of XP, I can get it where you press ENTER to do a fresh install of XP, but then it can't find a hard drive or any partitions to install XP onto. So it aborts the process. Is there something I have to do to the SATA HD in the BIOS?!?!
Really confused here :(
Windows XP installation
webmaster wrote on December 30, 2007 - 04:35It is not a problem at all. As you rightly said, you just have to go to boot settings your bios and then change SATA Hard Disk settings as "disabled"
This should work.I guess the error that you are getting is somewhat like "system cannot find any harddisk attached to your computer". :)
cheers

Sven (not verified) wrote on December 30, 2007 - 13:08Worked it all out mate.
You need Service Pack 2 installed for it to work.
I only had Service Pack 1 and it doesn't work with just that.
Everything else you have on the site is 100% perfect.
Thanks a tonne for the info on your site mate.

Can't get sound to work :(
Sven (not verified) wrote on December 30, 2007 - 11:01Hey JoJu,
Everything was working fine to start with.
Got to the part where I need to install the UAA. That went fine.
I did get the error message when trying to install the Conexant CX20549-12 Audio Driver.
Followed the follow-up instructions by opening up device manager, but there wasn't a listing for "Right click on "Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus" and click Update driver."
The only two devices without a driver were a PCI Device and an Unknown Device.
There isn't a Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus to right click on under the Sound Video and game controllers section in Device Manager.
I tried updating the unknown device with the CpV30D5a.inf file from the C:\sp36090 folder. It installed the driver but then said the device could not start and got a code 10 error.
Any idea on what I need to do?!?!?
PC works fine and ultra fast. Just no sound :(
Thanks for that mate. How to enter Bios?
Sven (not verified) wrote on December 30, 2007 - 05:00Thanks for that mate. Going to have a crack at it tomorrow on my day off. Just one last thing...... how do I enter the BIOS?!?
I tried using the Delete button but it didn't seem to work. Settings on the Notebook seem different than my desktop.
Also I have already downloaded all the driver except the last one which the link is dead.....
HP Quick Launch Buttons Driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35977.exe
Is this a necessary driver to have?!?!?!

How to enter BIOS
webmaster wrote on December 31, 2007 - 12:13Dear Sven,
Normally, the key to enter Bios is the "Del" button, which you have to press the moment you press the "Power button". In some machines, the key to enter BIOS Setup is F2. This should work for you.
Regarding the Quick Launch buttons, it is not necessary to have those. Your laptop will work perfect even without them. These driver are used to enable the quick launch buttons that you will find near your keyboard, in your laptop.

Driver source??
Anonymous (not verified) wrote on December 27, 2007 - 19:06Craig,
From where did you install the driver for Windows XP?
The new audio devices are HD (High Defintion) Audio and you need to install Microsoft UAA drivers to enable High Definition Audio for Windows. Before installing the audio drivers in your notebook, you will have to install UAA drivers.
Incase you had already installed audio drivers, you can uninstall them and install it again after UAA drivers
From where to download?
Craig Currey (not verified) wrote on December 27, 2007 - 19:09Hi
We have done a clean install so probably have not installed the UAA drivers , from where could I download them

Anonymous (not verified) wrote on December 27, 2007 - 19:21Generally HP is the custodian of all these drivers. And they have it uploaded it their ftp server from where we can download the drivers using the links from them. There is a chap option in HP's website using which you can chat real-time to their executive and they will provide you with links for your laptop.
Try given links
