Ubuntu 11.10 released - Windows users should give it a shot with this installation manual

| | 2 min read

Another October has arrived and, like clockwork, Canonical has released the latest version of Ubuntu - Ubuntu 11.10 or codenamed Ubuntu Oneiric Ocelot. The Content Grid team has in turn put in some effort towards this new release and has come up with an Installation Guide for Ubuntu 11.10. The CDs and DVDs for the latest Ubuntu 11.10 should be available via our RequestCD program.

With the new ubuntu installation manual we welcome existing Windows users to try out Ubuntu 11.10. Installing Ubuntu is now almost childsplay and the installation manual with the screenshots and descriptions gives you a clear idea about the installation steps and walks you through the common configurations ands steps to be followed to try out Ubuntu. Using Wubi (the windows installer) you can install Ubuntu right from Windows itself allowing you to try out Ubuntu just like trying out any other Windows applications. Those already comfortable with partitioning can take the approach of installing Ubuntu into its own partition and trying it out even while keeping the Windows installation active on your system. Even this step is made very simple by allowing users to partition their disks using a drag/resize UI.

Those who are in/around Trivandrum can drop by our office to get help in Installing Ubuntu 11.10 on to their laptops or desktops. We would be more than happy to help you do this. You could also get help from the FSUG Trivandrum mailing list if you run into issues during installation or after installation.
