Technology is not rocket science; it can be simple, fun, and exciting. And 'Code for Fun' has proved this beyond doubt!

'Code for Fun', the one-day workshop organized by Hackerspace in partnership with SPACE (Society for Promotion of Alternative Computing and Employment) and Zyxware Technologies for children from class 5-7 at Christ Nagar School, Vellayambalam, ended on a joyful note. Twenty kids selected from various schools across Trivandrum participated in the workshop.

The workshop provided the kids a wonderful opportunity to learn and create digital programs and to demonstrate their technical skills. The children were introduced to Free and Open Source software through Scratch programming and Robotics using Raspberry Pi. The sessions also offered students a comprehensive insight into the underlying science and programming behind the software applications they use in their daily lives.

Mr. Hari Pillai, an avid programming enthusiast who is working with kids in the UK on similar programs, spearheaded the workshop. Mr. Vimal Joseph, Technical Architect, and Mr. Sooraj Kenoth, Free Software Migration Consultant, Zyxware Technologies coordinated the sessions with great enthusiasm and provided essential technical guidance to the children throughout the program.

The success of the event has inspired Zyxware to associate with schools and educational institutions across the state to promote the use of Scratch, Python Turtle, Raspberry Pi, Arduino etc. through the various training programs for children. Plans to conduct similar workshops are also on the anvil. Such workshops would provide an exciting and innovative platform for children to demonstrate their technical skills, develop critical thinking and collaboration, and instill in them a passion for technology.
