Compaq Presario CQ40-108TU is an Intel based machine from the house of HP-Compaq. It comes with a Pentium Dual Core processor with 2.0 GHz speed, 1GB RAM, 160GB Hard Disk, DVD RW and may more. This laptop comes with a pre-installed version of FreeDOS. You would require to install an operating system to work on the machine. The company supports use of Windows Vista only. You might not find the links for Drivers for Windows XP online. Here we have given the links for the same.

Hi Zyware;

I was able to Install WinXp in dual boot with Win Vista.I am able to use both the OS.I have installed WinXP on D drive while Win Vista is pre Installed in C drive.
Most of the functionalities like Blue Tooth, Touch Pad, Display are working fine in Win XP.
But the audio is not working.When i install the MAA KB888 device driver, i am able to listen to audio.
On reboot the i the error for any audio file is coming as Device Driver not found.
I have been able to install IDT on D drive.I dont know How to solve this problem. On thing i have noticed that the MA KB888 driver instals some hidden file in C:drive after which it gives the on screen instructions to install the driver further in D drive.

Please help me

Hii there..last 2 weeks,i'ved reformat my friends notebook brand Compaq Presario CQ40,AMD based with coded CQ40-402AU ,so what i'ved tested is,its possible to upgraded from vista home premium to Windows 7 Ultimate,all driver loaded automatically,but dont forgot to make recovery companion disc before you do something.But i cant used the recovery cd to get the driver in that cd when i reprogram it to Vista Ultimate by selected fresh install .I'ved choosed fresh install because i cant upgraded from OEM Vista Home Premium came with Compaq due to compatibality problem with my OS DVD i think,so i'ved make decisions to let it run fresh install to force install Vista Ultimate in this machine,among that,i found d problem there,driver issue,spent almost 24hrs to download it from HP website.

Can't install XP on CQ40-108TU.
I boot from CD-ROM with WinXP Installer.
On the first part of the Windows Setup, it stopped with an error message:
".... Check your Hard Drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated ...."

This error is caused due the incompatable XP Write procedure...This is a common in Compaq laptops. Improper software drivers or errors in drivers can cause this. This problem can be rectified by booting the laptop after disabling all the Bios functions(this works out only in rare cases)

The best thing to do is remove your laptop CMOS (if u kno it how to do for sure)....put it back and reboot...
this will solve the problem

NEXT BEST EASY THING IS...vista can override all these stop errors ..just pop in and install
...if u r not comfortable with vista (first install Vista and then format it using any of the ways
(using recovery console OR a Boot diskette or BOOTABLE XP )...Though this is a long process this idea comes in handy..

So why u suggest download and installing nVidia Chipset and Drivers.

R u mad... I think u have not full information about this product.

This laptop is definitely fitted with an Intel Dual Core Processor. But chipset and graphics are manufactured by NVIDIA company. This does not have anything to do with the processor type.

Yes we tried to install windows xp and you should have USB floppy drive and insert floppy with the SATA RAID Controller driver.

First u need a USB floppy drive. and then
u have to download the ICH9 sata ahci drivers from intel website in download-chipset-notebook-intel 4 series express chipset. download from above link

EXTRACT THE ZIP FILE AND COPY THE FILES INTO FLOPPY. THEN RESTART THE LAPTOP AND LOAD THE WINDOWS XP CD AND BOOT FROM IT. THEN PRESS "F6" CONTINOUSLY DURING INITIAL BLUE SCREEN APPEARS TO INSTALL 3RD PARTY DRIVERS. AFTER THAT IN BETWEEN IT PROMPTS TO SELECT THE DRIVERS BY PRESSING "S" ,THEN SELECT THE ABOVE DRIVER :
"Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller" AND THEN PRESS ENTER TWICE TO CONTINUE SETUP OF XP OS.
DELETE ALL EXISTING PARTITIONS AND RE-CREATE THE PARTITIONS. THEN WINDOWS XP INSTALLS PROPERLY.
BUT THE MAIN PART COMES UPTO IS THE DRIVERS.
SOUND, MODEM, HDMI PORT, WIFI DRIVERS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. BUT THE REST OF DRIVERS ARE AVAILABLE ON THEIR RESPECTIVE WEBSITE.

Is it impossible to install XP on CQ40-108 model ?
