With a view to promote the status of Kerala as an IT Hub, Kerala State IT mission organized yet another IT Show. The theme of Kerala IT.Com 2008 was ‘Kerala – The IT Destination Hub – Cutting edge and Viable solutions through use of IT’. This time the show was hosted at Technopark. One major change in this years show was a stall offerred by the IT Mission for the promotion of free software community in the state and for the promotion of free software in Industry.

The Free Software Stall was manned by volunteers from GNU/Linux Users Group Trivandrum and staff from SPACE-KERALA. Being a very active member of the GNU/Linux Users Group Trivandrum we had sent our teams to man the stall for two days. There were primarily three activities at the stall - one was a demonstration of the possibilities of Malayalam Computing using free software. The other was interaction with the visitors and clarification of doubts and questions regarding free software.

The third activity was the explanation of the activities and opportunities with the free software community in Trivandrum. Interested people were also invited to sign up for the GNU/Linux Users Group Trivandrum. Email addresses and phone numbers were collected of the people who showed interest. For those who had only given phone numbers we had made phone calls subsequently to collect email addresses for sending them invites.

It was really a productive IT show for the free software community as it gave us the opportunity to take the possibilities of Free Software to the IT professionals and to the corporate world in Trivandrum.
