The full set of Ubuntu Repository DVDs (set of 5 DVDs) is now available. You can request for your copy of the Ubuntu Repositories through our RequestCD program. The ubuntu repository DVDs contain the complete set of packages under the main, universe, multiverse and restricted repositories in Ubuntu. Please note that we will mail out the DVDs only within India.
If you have the complete Ubuntu Repository you do not have to have an internet connection to install any package that is normally available through Synaptic Package Manager. First create a set of directories like /var/ubuntu/dvd-n where n is the DVD number. Then copy the contents of the Ubuntu Repository DVDs to five folders. Edit /etc/apt/sources.list and add the following lines

deb file:///var/ubuntu/dvd-2 main restricted multiverse universe
deb file:///var/ubuntu/dvd-3 main restricted multiverse universe
deb file:///var/ubuntu/dvd-4 main restricted multiverse universe
deb file:///var/ubuntu/dvd-5 main restricted multiverse universe

Now run apt-get update and you are all set. You are liberated from the net. You don't have to be connected always. You can always sample any of the 23000 odd packages in the Ubuntu repositories any time you wish to, without worrying about the bandwidth.
