HCL has introduced a new series of Ultra Portable Laptop - HCL MiLeap. This is a major step that HCL has taken towards bringing technology to common man in India. These are highly compact, weightless and fully functional laptops that can provide us mobility and wireless experience at an affordable price. These were launched on 15th January, 2008. They will be released on 26th January, as a gift to the nation during Republic Day of India. These laptops will be available for sale in Zyxware from February onwards. The prices are given below.

Hi,

At HCL showroom in kolkata the salesperson on enquiry confirmed that the ram is soldered on the motherboard and there is no other dimm slot hence not upgradable, kindly clarify with Ram specifications if upgradeable.

Windows XP in Mileap X

I have seen a Mileap X laptop with Windows XP installed in it but the problem I have noticed was that the full view is not fitting in the display. The task bar and some area above it is not visible you have to scroll down to see that. That's the same horizontally some area on the right is also is out of the screen. I doubt it because of the resolution. Mileap X screen's resolution is 800x480. The one I ve seen was set with 1024 X 600 as it seemed. Could that be the problem?. Will reducing the resolution solve it?

Kindly make sure that, in the MiLeap laptop that you had seen, drivers for graphics were properly installed. Currently, I cannot comment on such an issue as we have not come across one. I believe it is just a matter of adjusting the screen resolution to the one that best suits it.

Thank you for your reply to my querry. I just wanted to make sure Windows XP runs on mileap . Is it possible for me to see a mileap S running on Windows OS at your place if I come over at Zyxware. The one I saw recently in Trivandrum was having a scroll. When I contacted HCL regarding this issue. They said Mileap H and S are coming with Windows OS and are not having any such problem. They asked me to buy from someone authorized.

The Mileap series don't have a RJ 11 port for dial up connection. You will have to upgrade to a broad band ADSL modem and connect it to any of the 2 USB ports.

The RAM can be upgraded to a max of 2 GB. The price of 2GB DIMM will be around Rs. 2000.
I cannot say anything regarding upgrading HDD to 160/250GB. If if does not allow upgrading the internal HDD, you can try external HDD. I dont think the battery can be upgraded as the battery in MiLeap comes sealed inside the box as compared to normal laptops whose batteries are easily removable.
The price of MiLeap Y Series at Zyxware is Rs. 30500/- inclusive of all taxes with shipping cost extra at the rate of Rs. 10/kg (in Kerala). The total weight might come to about 2 or 2.5 kgs.

As per current tax norms, if you are planning to purchase from Zyxware, instead of VAT, 10% CST is applicable as this is will be inter-state sales in nature. Shipping cost is Rs. 70/kg to Bombay. Total weight of the consignment will be approx. 2 to 2.5 kg (including the packing and carry case). Total cost of MiLeap Y series when calculated similarly will be about Rs. 32504/-

These are not catagorized as P3 or P4 processors. The processor used in MiLeap Intel Processor A110 which are based on 90 nm process technology featuring 512-KB L2 cache and 400-MHz front side bus (FSB). The processor is a derivative core based on the Intel® Pentium® M processor architecture that delivers performance. The Intel processor A110 is an ultra low-power mobile processors. (Reference: Intel.com)
The processor is not P3 or P4. It is another type of mobile processor designed by Intel.

These prices are exclusive of taxes. As you are located in Delhi, the mode of tax would be CST which is 10% for the price of the product. Also shipping cost is also extra which would be about Rs. 70/kg (for Delhi) and the average weight of a package (1 laptop pack and carrybag pack) would be about 5-6kg.
Currently, we do not have a contact in Delhi. We ship across the sub-continent from our corporate office in Trivandrum.
