i have brought new compaq presario A933TU notebook pc with windows vista home basic installed but i am not finding comfortale with vista, means it is a home basic os , i can't use administrator login on it. And internet is also very slow and rubishh plus irritating on that plateform so i installed windows xp sp2 on it but now i am not able to have software drivers and device drivers for windows xp.

so can you help me regarding that
i need software for my conexant Audio and Conexant Modem.

You know what ever one can do. Use Sisandra software to determeine what hardware you have on all these laptops and then based on the model find the drivers! For example the audio may have a name like realtek 6386 ac 97. That is only a example mind you, but you can just search for that name with google and plus add in the search "winxp drivers" and hopefully you'll find it. One thing with the wireless card, you can open the cover under the laptop where the wireless card is installed and look at th model # and start searching for that. I found my wireless drivers like that and I actually used lol drivers from gateway!!!! If anyone needs something specific let me know maybe I can email it to you! I reinstalled windows on a c751nr and I got the drivers with me.

The Conexant SmartAudio 221 works for me on a Compaq C736TU. Before Smart Audio in Control Panel reported Codec Model: CX20561, Audi Driver Version: 3.30.0.0 SmartAudio Version: 2.16.0.0. Before audio came out of speakers and headphones at the same time. Now if I plug the headphones in, speakers are muted. Also mic on a headset works. However, can't get mic on the laptop working, but thats no big deal since I really need the headset for VOIP/Skype. Smart Audio now reports Smart Audio version 2.19.0.0 (the driver version is wrong, its now 3.47.0.0 (before driver in Smart Audio and Device manager were the same). This laptop bought from Pantip Plaza in bangkok, and they installed a Windows XP SP2 image for me, with all drivers installed. When I returned it to them with the mic issue, they told me there was no solution (but I have found one now). http://www.2shared.com/file/2944663/2a44c4df/sound.html seems to be the same version.

FYI- For any of you downgraging a Compaq Presario C700T CTO to Windows XP, this solved my audio driver problem. I can now control the volume settings and my headphones work correctly as well.

Use this for audio.Unzip to a folder.Run installer.if it errors use device Manager
From Device Manager,right click "Audio Device on HD",choose Update driver,
No to connect,
Install from a list or specific location,
Don't search I will choose the driver to install,
In the list of common hardware types, scroll down and select Sound, Video, and Game controllers.
Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".
Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".Ignore XP when it complains.
Reboot.

after dozens of drivers, i finally found that the compaq DV3000 laptop uses a compatible sound driver under xp with the 757 model. so under windows XP i now have every single device working except the quicklaunch keys that don't come on this machine anyway.

if you're still having issues with the soundcard, try that driver from compaq before continuing in your searches! cheers folks, and good luck with this machine...

As mentioned above, HP-Compaq says that this laptop is designed to work with Vista. They do not guarantee it to work well with XP and also you might not get software warranty from them if you downgrade to XP. You will not have to worry about hardware warranty, which they will have to give you.
