I recently bought a compaq V3719TU and the built-in mic was not working. When the headphones were plugged in, the sound came from both the speakers AND headphone, which was rather silly to have a headphone in the first place.

I called HP, and was told that there was something wrong with my motherboard and Intel. Called Intel and they told me to refer back to HP. And it went on and on for weeks! The Customer care of HP was totally useless as well.

Anyway, I recently had it resolved. I know how frustrating it can be so I would like to tell all of you facing the same problem as I did, to go to Mid Valley (if you are in Malaysia) and go on to the third floor, the dudes from HP outlet are amazing. They fixed the problem in seconds. Arent the friendliest people on earth but they managed to resolve my problem with no charges.

So, if you are having problems, head on to HP Mid Valley, Malaysia. Save yourself the heartaches!

Many are facing problem with microphone and speaker in the same laptop. We had tried to find a solution for the same. Please try the steps given below.

Try to download and install the following web link for Audio driver
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36001-36500/sp36408.exe

Installing this driver may result in an error. But continue with the following steps to get the audio driver installed correctly.
1. Click on Start and select Run. Now type devmgmt.msc and press enter.
2. Right click on "Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus" and click Update driver.
3. Select "Install from a list or specific location"
4. Click Next. Then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"
5. Click Next and then select "Sound, video and game controller" from the list.
6. Click Next and then click Have Disk.
7. Click Browse C:\swsetup\sp36408 folder and the double click the V32 folder. Select the .inf file, click open and Continue with the onscreen instructions.

Then try to reinstall the Multimedia in the notebook.

Before reinstalling Multimedia in Windows XP, perform the following steps:

a. Display the hidden files and folders by following these steps:

1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
2. Click Appearance and Themes.
3. Click Folder Options and select the View tab.
4. Deselect "Hide file extensions for known file types" under Files and Folders.
5. Click Apply and click OK.

b. Make changes in the Sysoc.inf file by following these steps:
NOTE: Create a backup copy of the Sysoc.inf file before making any changes to the file.

1. Click Start and select My Computer.
2. Double-click C: drive.
3. Double-click WINDOWS folder.
4. Double-click the "Inf" folder and open the Sysoc.inf file.
5. Under the [components] section of the INF folder, locate the following entry:
"MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,hide,,7"
6. Remove "hide" from the entry and ensure that it appears as given below:
"MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,,7"
7. Save and close the Sysoc.inf file.

To reinstall Multimedia using Add or Remove programs, follow these steps:

1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs and then click Add/Remove Windows components.
3. Double-click Accessories and Utilities.
4. Deselect Multimedia checkbox.
5. Click OK and click Next. Windows will complete the upgrade and prompt you to complete the process.
6. Click Finish and restart the computer.
7. Click Start and select Control Panel.
8. Click Add or Remove Programs and then click Add/Remove Windows components.
9. Double-click Accessories and Utilities.
10. Select the Multimedia checkbox.
11. Click OK and click Next.
12. Click Finish and restart the computer.

Multimedia will be reinstalled on your computer.

I had tried all the drivers you give above, but the sound card doesn't work ( I also tried some another drivers ). I have a driver that work with windos xp but it's only problem that when I plug in headphone the inside speaker still work (^_^)
